The property has been surveyed to determine the property lines. You

Malibu, CA has not always enjoyed the reputation of movie stars and
multi-million dollar mansions as it does today....you need to realize that
Malibou Lake began in 1922 as a get away location for fishing and swimming in
the great outdoors. Malibou Lake is right next to
Malibu Creek State
Park and just over the hill from
Malibu itself. But, in 1922 there was no park and Malibu was a ranch owned
by a single family. And the
Rindge family was
quite protective of their property and had developed a reputation over the years
for shooting at trespassers...not exactly the sort of marketing that encourages
people to vacation at your resort in the mountains. So the founders of Malibou
Lake thought a slight name change was in order to give their location a more
positive aura. Yes, we realize that changing the spelling to the more well known
Malibu would probably increase our property values but over 80 years of history
is hard to change and most of us don't plan on moving and therefore aren't
concerned with property values....so Malibou Lake is here to stay. However, the
confusion is probably also here to stay since many businesses now find greater
value in using Malibu Lake in the name of their business as opposed to Malibou
Lake. The Malibu Lake Riders are
one prominent example. They provide trails rides on horse back in the local area
and are a great way to see the local sights even if they are gramatically
challenged.
The water flowing over Malibou Lake's dam finds it's way to the ocean at the
Malibu Lagoon.
Next to Malibu Lagoon is
The Adamson House.
This house and museum contain a lot of local history about the Malibu area and
the Rindge Family's fight to keep Malibu pristine.
